James W. Reede, III is a 17-year old Senior at Monterey Trail High School in Elk Grove, California. This talented junior currently carries a (+.6) handicap. James has been Captain of the Varsity Men’s Golf Team for the past 3 years and is currently a Student Assistant Coach for the Women’s Team for a second year. As a natural athlete, he also ran track and cross country before deciding to devote his focus to golf.
James started playing the game at age 4 and at age 6, he joined the Northern California Minority Jr. Golf Scholarship Association’s “Junior Golf Training Program”. While honing his skills as a teenager, James has posted over 150 hours as a volunteer Golf Instructor with NCMJGSA. James was in the inaugural class of the Kappa Golf Association’s “Junior Golf Guide Right” program and has participated in The First Tee of Greater Sacramento since 1999. He is currently working on his ACE Level designation. James is a member of the Sacramento Area Black Golf Club and the Wildhawk Players Association.
In 2009, Champions Tour and Charles Schwab Winner, Loren Roberts, befriended James and this newly developed relationship facilitated Robert’s donation of $70,000 to the Elk Grove Unified School District. The donation preserved the golf programs at the nine Elk Grove high schools. His most recent achievement is taking 1st place at WSGA’s Alan Bennett, Jr. Golf Championship in Las Vegas, NV. This victory made him the first of the automatic qualifiers for the 2012 Junior PGA Championship.
James published an article on the USGA JuniorLinks website in 2007 titled “The Career of a Golf Professional.” Additionally, he plays the Jazz Saxophone and has a Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do.
